Smart Growth Ambassadors
Interested in learning about smart, sustainable growth? Do you have input on how our city uses our natural resources? Do you want Lexington to build more affordable homes in walkable neighborhoods with increased access to transportation options?
Join our Smart Growth Ambassadors program of 15 trained members to learn how to be an advocate for smart, sustainable, and equitable growth in Lexington. We will discuss the many ways you can be an ambassador at City Hall, in your neighborhood, and beyond.
Sign up below for our Smart Growth Ambassadors orientation on Tuesday, March 21. Whether you know little about smart growth, or you are a Grow Smart Academy alumni, all are welcome!
Duration: 2 hours
Time: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Location: Crank & Boom Craft Ice Cream, 1210 Manchester St. Lexington, KY 40504
SGA Program Overview:
We will review the basics of city planning for sustainable and equitable growth and how local government decisions impact our daily lives. Next, we will map out all the ways that you can be a Smart Growth Ambassador in our community from neighborhood association meetings to City Hall, and even with your friends and family through storytelling.
After Orientation
Once the orientation is complete, we will help you create an ambassador action plan that works best for you and your capacity. There are many ways to be an ambassador and they start with as little as 30 minutes a month. As long as you’re interested in learning how to talk about smart growth, we can work with you to figure out what the best next steps are for your role as an Ambassador!
Ambassadors will have optional educational and volunteer outings throughout the year with our community partner organizations from working in the Seedleaf urban farms to volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and learning about the Lexington Community Land Trust. Additionally, we will have optional social events!
