Short-Term Rental Properties – Lessons from New Orleans

As Lexington navigates new policies around the management of short term rental properties, lessons from other cities about effective regulation on these increasingly popular forms of occupancy can be extremely valuable. Questions around tourism, enforcement, housing stock, and neighborhood impact, among others, are important considerations for this city-wide discussion.

Fayette Alliance, the University of Kentucky Department of Historic Preservation, and the Urban Land Institute – Kentucky Chapter hosted a discussion with Ashley Becnel, Chief Zoning Official of the City of New Orleans, Louisiana on May 28 about how New Orleans manages short-term rentals in their city.

While we know our unique community must find its own path, we believe learning from the experiences of other cities can inform our policy making as we move forward.
