Tree I.D. at Grimes Mill Farm
Fayette Alliance is thrilled to be hosting an official Tree Week event for the 2026 fall season on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 6 p.m.ย
We hope youโll join us for โTree I.D.,โ an event designed to celebrate and learn about the native tree species found on the farmland outside of Lexingtonโs historic Urban Service Boundary.ย
This official Tree Week event features half-mile, guided hike at Grimes Mill Farm to educate attendees on how to identify some of Lexingtonโs most majestic native trees.
- Additionally: Learn about Lexingtonโs Purchase-of-Development Rights Program, hear from a professional arborist, and play a friendly game of tree bingo that doubles as a leaf pressing activity.ย
After the hike, attendees are encouraged to network and mingle with a fun and festive group activity โ learn how to plant a potted bur oak acorn while enjoying wine, beer, cider, and other NA beverages. All registered attendees will leave with their very own potted Burr Oak acorn, which they can then plant at their home or in their neighborhood.ย
- Note: This is a family-friendly event, and children are not only allowed, but encouraged to join in on the fun.

Hike Details:
- The guided hike will take place on the property of Grimes Mill Farm, is approximately a half-mile in length, and predominantly downhill.
- At the end of the hike, and after the event concludes, Fayette Alliance will have two vehicles available to shuttle attendees back to their cars. Please wear comfortable close-toed shoes.
- Sunset is at 7 p.m. โ a headlamp or cell phone light is encouraged.
- Fayette Alliance will provide free snacks and beverages after the hike.

- 6:00 – 6:10 p.m. |ย Check in
- 6:10 – 6:25 p.m. | Presentation about Lexingtonโs PDR Program
- 6:25 – 7:15 p.m. |ย Guided Tree Walk w/ Tree Bingo
- 7:15 – 7:30 p.m. | Burr Oak acorn planting activity
- 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. |ย Happy Hour on Grimes Mill Farm
Directions + Parking
There is parking next to the barn at 7041 Grimes Mill Rd. Parking is limited so carpooling is encouraged.ย
Please note that Old Richmond Rd. may be closed due to road construction and navigation apps may take you through Athens. Click the button below for directions from Google Maps.
About Grimes Mill:
The Grimes Mill Road corridor is both historically rich and agriculturally significant in many ways. Home to the Grimes House and Mill Complex, this early industrial agriculture facility dates back to 1803 and is listed as a National Register historic property. The mill produced grain and flour, and distilled whiskey. Today, Grimes Mill Road is home to a local winery and several PDR-protected farms that produce livestock and crops.
This event will take place on the farm currently owned by Gloria and Chas Martin.
