Horses, dogs and art have always been a way of life for Judith Berkshire Jones, a native of Chicago, Illinois. A life long, hands on horse woman, Judy has been riding, showing and training hunters and jumpers since childhood. She has also painted commissioned sporting portraits for over forty years. She attended the acclaimed American Academy of Art in Chicago and studied there under the legendary water colorist Irving Shapiro. She has also studied with a number of respected equine artists over the years and has had her work accepted into the American Academy of Equine Art juried show during the Academy’s tenure at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Judy’s ability to capture the essence of the equine and canine spirit as well as her depiction of correct conformation and the flowing line and color in her paintings of horses and riders in motion, has earned her the praise and admiration of horsemen from both the horse show arena and the racing world. The Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders association commissioned Ms. Jones to portray the Kentucky Stallion of the year three times. These paintings included such memorable horses as Seattle Slew, Phone Trick and Lord At War. For forty years Judy’s second home has always been Lexington and she is now living and painting full time in her beloved Bluegrass region.

Upon completion of this series, an auction of works by featured artists will be held to benefit The Fayette Alliance, Lexington’s voice for sustainable growth.
