Greg Goodman
It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of one of Fayette Allianceโs founders and greatest champions, H. Greg Goodman. He was a tireless and passionate advocate; not just for responsible land use, farmland protection, and sustainable growth โ the principles on which he helped to found Fayette Alliance in 2006 โ but for Lexington-Fayette County, a community he loved dearly.ย
Greg and the Goodman family have invested in so many different aspects of Lexington in ways that have had transformational impacts which will continue for generations. Beyond land use, they include healthcare and cancer research, childrenโs medical care, the arts, parks and greenspaces including Gatton Park on the Town Branch, rural hamlets through A Sense of Place project, local education, equine education, racing integrity, research and after care, and the list goes on. Those investments reverberate through Lexington and the Bluegrass region.ย
Twenty years ago, Greg helped build Fayette Alliance โ and what started as an idea to give community members a voice in how land use decisions were made, has grown into a thriving organization that carries on the same passionate principles and drive he helped instill in it from the very beginning.
Gregโs leadership, generosity, passionate advocacy and friendship will be deeply missed. Our entire community is stronger because of it.ย
Our hearts are with Becky, Gregโs wife of 43 years, and his beloved children Hutton, Bo, Hannah, Mary Jane and 10 grandchildren.ย
โIt is difficult to adequately convey the enormous impact Greg has had on Lexington-Fayette County, on Fayette Alliance, and on me personally,โ says Brittany Roethemeier, Executive Director of Fayette Alliance โI will miss his wisdom, integrity, passion, and guidance, and am endlessly grateful for the opportunity I had to work with him and have now to continue the work he so fiercely championed. His powerful legacy will live on through his family and through the Bluegrass landscape he cherished and protected. His friendship is a gift I will keep forever.โ
โWe could not have gotten Fayette Alliance up and running, and most importantly, turned it into such an impactful organization, without Greg Goodman,” says Don Robinson, Board Chairman of Fayette Alliance. โFor 20 years, it has been both an honor and a privilege to work with him, sharing our passion for our iconic Bluegrass land. He will be dearly missed.โ
