Update: Farmland Spared from RV Park
We need your help!
This afternoon, LFUCG’s Board of Adjustment will decide whether to grant a permit that would allow a temporary R.V. park on a 91-acre farm in Northern Fayette County.
We’re opposing this development because it undermines our local land use laws, threatens our Bluegrass farmland and signature agricultural industries, and jeopardizes our commitment to clean water in Lexington-Fayette County.
The applicant wants to build 444 individual RV campsites on the farm, each roughly 30’ wide and 50’ deep. Water and electric service will be provided to each site and a sanitation company will remove raw sewage from the sites. Two miles of gravel driveways will be constructed to transport R.V.s to Iron Works and Lisle Roads. The applicant aims to complete this project in time for the World Equestrian Games to host R.V. campers during the event.

Tomorrow, LFUCG’s Board of Adjustment will decide whether to grant a permit that would allow a temporary R.V. park on a 91-acre farm in Northern Fayette County.
I support The Fayette Alliance’s opposition to the proposed development of a temporary R.V. park on a 91 acre farm in Northern Fayette County because it undermines our local land use laws, threatens our Bluegrass farmland and signature agricultural industries, and jeopardizes our commitment to clean water in Lexington-Fayette County.
A campsite of this magnitude not only acts as a stalking horse for more non-agricultural developments in the rural area, and it also sets a dangerous precedent that waives health regulations requiring on-site sewage treatment facilities for developments of this size.
While we must promote agritourism and prepare for the World Equestrian Games, we shouldn’t do it at the expense of our zoning ordinance, signature farm industries, or already impaired natural waterways—especially as the need for this campsite is questionable in light of Midway’s recently permitted 500-space R.V. park, and inventory of still vacant hotel rooms in Central Kentucky.
