1. What is your vision for Lexington-Fayette County?
A city that is stable with the ability to sustain economic growth.
2. As a Councilmember, you will adopt the “Goals and Objectives” of the Comprehensive Plan—which governs land-use in Fayette County. Do you support an expansion of the Urban Service Boundary during the next Comprehensive Plan Process?
Absolutely, growth is very important to every city. The USB gives us a chance to concentrate on the growth of the city while conserving the rural scenic landscape that makes Lexington so special.
3. As a Councilmember, what will you do to ensure that the land bank authority is properly established? What should be the criteria for awarding parcels for infill-redevelopment projects and/or real estate deals?
I will support the land bank financially because it is a good way to turn undesirable land into future growth for the city. The developers must agree not to disrupt historic districts or affect any preserved farmlands outside the Urban Service Area.
4. Will you support continuing funding of at least $2 million, annually, for the PDR program?
Yes, it is necessary to protect the farmland and horse farms in Lexington that has become an important asset to this city.
5. As a Councilmember, how will you address Lexington’s affordable housing needs?
I believe the key to affordable housing is cleaning up undesirable neighborhoods in this city so people can have options in their choice of resident. By giving the people more desirable places to live, that in turn forces the landlords to keep their prices more competitive. We need better quality neighborhoods.
6. As a Councilmember, would you change the LFUCG Divisions of Planning, Building Inspection, & Code Enforcement? If so, how?
I believe that higher standards need to be established when it comes to development as well as stricter standards for already established developments.
7. As a Councilmember, how will you handle CentrePointe and similar development projects moving forward? How will you implement the Downtown Masterplan and its recommendations?
I believe Centre Pointe has caused a great burden on city. Projects like this need to be better planned. Downtown is the core of any great city, but I believe this city has more pressing issues during these trying economic times.
8. As a Councilmember, how do you propose addressing—in the long term—the student housing issues in Lexington’s established neighborhoods? How will you incentivize infill in the Urban Service Boundary, while protecting the character of established neighborhoods?
We need to continue to develop student housing as well fix the poor conditions of those currently available. University of Kentucky is vital to the well being of Lexington, therefore proper student housing is a necessity. With growth comes sacrifice, but a proper balance of the USP can be made so neighborhoods are minimally effected.
9. Fayette County agri-business and agritourism generate over $3billion for the regional economy each year. As a Councilmember, how will you promote these signature industries?
With the PDR we will be able to protect these revenue streams. I believe with proper advertising we can capitalize on these two very important industries.
