South Limestone Multimodal Study – Plan Concepts Now On Web

The purpose of the study is to develop a conceptual design that will improve safety and convenience for all drivers, bicyclists, transit riders and pedestrians who utilize this busy corridor from Cooper Drive to Avenue of Champions.  The study also addresses Upper Street from downtown to Scott Street.

The preliminary designs were developed after public input was gathered at an open planning meeting last June. Three plans were presented at a public meeting held on October 27, 2009 for public discussion and comment.

Citizen comment on these plans will be accepted until November 13, 2009.  Follow this link to view the plans http://www.lexingtonky.gov/index.aspx?page=579

Lexington residents will have the opportunity next week to review design concepts to improve South Limestone Street from Cooper Drive to Avenue of Champions.   The designs seek to improve pedestrian, bicycle and vehicular traffic, as well as public transit.  The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 27 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the University of Kentucky Student Center in Room 230.

Engineering consultants with Wilbur Smith Associates will present three design options for the portion of Limestone Street adjacent to the University of Kentucky. The study also includes South Upper Street between downtown and the Avenue of Champions.

The meeting will follow an open house format with the three designs being available for public review between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30p.m.  The designers will provide a formal presentation of the three design options at 5:30 p.m.  Public comment and discussion will follow the presentations.

The South Limestone Multimodal Transportation Study is being conducted by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government (LFUCG) and Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), in partnership with the University of Kentucky (UK) and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC).

The purpose of the study is to develop a conceptual design that will improve safety and convenience for all drivers, bicyclists, transit riders and pedestrians who utilize this busy and high collision corridor.

The preliminary designs were developed after public input was gathered at an open planning meeting last June.  At that time, citizens provided their thoughts on the project goals and potential corridor improvement options.
